Tyndale Theological Seminary

English Language Proficiency Requirements

The Dutch Government and Tyndale Theological Seminary require all applicants for a Master’s Program to take an English test and to submit their score as a part of the application process. Exceptions are made for students who have completed their entire education (primary, secondary and bachelor’s) in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, UK, or USA.

We prefer all applicants to take the TOEFL test. If the TOEFL test is not available in your country, we will accept the IELTS Academic test. The minimum English language proficiency requirements for admission at Tyndale are:

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): 80 (IELTS Academic test score of 6.5) for the MDiv program

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): 90 (IELTS Academic test score of 7.0) for the MET program

The TOEFL iBT® Home Edition is a safe and convenient option for students who prefer to take their test at home rather than a test center. IELTS Online is the new way to take the IELTS Academic test and has the same content and format as the IELTS Academic in-center test. Both TOEFL and IELTS provide free practice and sample test materials.

At your request, the testing institute will forward the results directly to the Tyndale Admissions Office. For TOEFL the testing institute should do this using the institutional code for Tyndale Theological Seminary: 9677.

The English proficiency test (TOEFL or IELTS) must have been completed no more than two years before 1 February of the year in which your program would start.

Please note that students who need a visa for residency in the Netherlands must submit their English test results before 1 February. Students who do not need a visa must submit their test results before 1 May.
